Which? Best Buy 2026

The Henchman 2.4 m / 8ft Fully Adjustable & PRO Tripod Ladders have ranked top against leading brands in independent testing, with an outstanding 88% score for stability, adjustability, portability and ease of use.

Tripod ladder with three adjustable legs

The ladder’s three legs adjust independently to accommodate uneven surfaces, slopes and steps. With up to 35° of incline/decline variability when facing a slope, you can tackle orchard, garden and property maintenance with ease and ultimate safety.
Fully Adjustable Tripod Ladder - platform rung

Sustained focus, without the fatigue

The unique, built-in working platform allows you to tuck your knees into the frame. This enhanced stability means you can work safely for longer periods of time, minimising fatigue.

Three legs, hundreds of uses

Whether you're fruit picking or painting high ceilings, our adjustable tripod ladder is up for the task. The clawed feet prevent sinking, so you can stay stable when working above flowerbeds, soil or wet ground, while the free rubber feet protect flooring when working indoors.

Adjusted leg on uneven terrain

Adjustable legs for uneven ground

Suitable for both outside and indoor use, each leg is independently adjustable to accommodate sloping surfaces, soft earth, and even stairways and steps, making jobs in tricky terrains a breeze. In fact, our tripod ladders can cope with level changes of up to 80% more than other tripod ladders on the market, so no task is out of reach.

Available in 5ft, 6ft, 8ft, 10ft and 12ft tripod models, you can get to those hard-to-reach branches, greenhouse roofs and guttering so that every job is completed with ease. The claw-like feet provide a solid grip on soft ground, so that you can complete tasks safely, come rain or shine.

Fully Adjustable Tripod Ladder - platform rung

Spacious platform for increased comfort and control

We know that comfort and control are key when working at height. That’s why our 3-adjustable leg tripod ladder features a generous 18cm platform and increased guardrail height to give you plenty of space and support to work safely.

Simply place your feet firmly on the platform rung and tuck your knees into the frame, and lean your body against the hip-height guard rail. You can then work in a secure position while providing increased comfort, greater freedom and more control.

Hedge-proof locking pin

Lockable legs to keep you safe at height

Designed with your safety in mind, our Fully Adjustable Tripod Ladder features our hedge-proof locking pin. To ensure that each leg is securely fixed in place without the risk of becoming dislodged by shrubbery or branches.

To adjust the legs, simply twist to release the handle, then pull to unlock the pin. When the handle is released, it will click back into place. When the handle is back in its closed position, the ladder legs are locked and ready to support you as you work.

The ONLY tripod ladder certified to UK safety standards

Our tripod range is certified to EN131 - the only tripods on the market in the UK and EU. This means our ladders go through rigorous testing to meet the standards of The British Standards Institution (BSI). Our ladders are tested by an independent third party, checking their stability, grip, dimensions, labelling and their 150kg working load. Read more about EN131 here.

What are the dimensions of the Fully Adjustable Tripod Ladders?

What size Fully Adjustable Tripod Ladder do I need?

Finding the correct size ladder is a simple 3-step process. First, it’s useful to understand how we measure our ladders.
• Our ladders are measured as the total length of the ladder when the legs are fully retracted, from the feet of the ladder to the guard rail at the top.
• The guard rail at the top of the ladder will be around hip height when you are standing on the platform.
• The platform height is 90cm (3ft) below the top of the ladder.
• All dimensions and working heights provided are based on the adjustable legs being fully retracted (in the shortest position).
• We don’t recommend extending the legs to gain extra height as climbing on/off the ladder becomes unsafe due to the distance between the ground and the first rung becoming very large.

1. To find the right size fully adjustable tripod ladder, measure the height of the working area that you are trying to reach. This is the most important step – it’s very difficult to accurately “eyeball” heights. Not measuring the job height is the leading cause for incorrect height ladders being ordered. Whilst we do offer a free 14 day returns/exchange policy, we recommend carefully selecting the appropriate height ladder from the onset to avoid the inconvenience of a return or exchange.

2. Decide where you want your hands to be when performing the required task. Here are some examples of jobs you’d do at each hand height:
a. Overhead/reaching – Lightweight and low fatigue work, such as pruning the top of a rose/wisteria, painting house facia, changing lightbulbs, cleaning a roof light, pruning the upper branches of a tree, etc.
b. Shoulder level – Mid-weight work, such as trimming the side of a hedge with hand tools (shears), or short-duration hedge cutting with a powered hedge cutter, tree maintenance with a pruning saw, using a powered drill/screwdriver, etc.
c. Hip level – Heavier weight work, such as hedge cutting with powered hedge cutter, top cutting a hedge with shears, etc.

3. Use the size guide in the diagram above to find the most suitable tripod size. For example:
a. Pruning the top of a 3.0m high rose bush = either the 1.8m or 2.4m tripod, depending if you want to be working closer to shoulder height or have full overhead reach.
b. Cutting the top of a 3.0 m high hedge = the 3.0m tripod. Your hips would be in line with the top of the hedge, the perfect position for holding a heavy hedge trimmer.

Can the legs be adjusted on steps or a slope?

Yes, all three legs are independently adjustable to allow you to extend or retract the legs as needed to offset variation in the ground height and keep the rungs level.

This allows you to safely use a Fully Adjustable Tripod Ladder on:

  • Sloping ground
  • Below trees where roots cause the ground to undulate
  • Raised borders
  • Steps (provided they are wide enough to accommodate the ladder width)
  • Decking/patios
  • Flat ground
  • Soft ground
  • Hard ground (when using the included rubber feet).

Can I gain extra height by extending the legs?

We don’t recommend it. The primary function of the legs on our tripod ladders is to allow for adjustments, ensuring the ladder maintains a level position on uneven ground. Safety is paramount in ladder usage, and Henchman ladders are specifically engineered to prioritise safety by levelling on uneven surfaces.

Extending all three legs increases the height of the ladder by 45cm (18 inches) on our Fully Adjustable Tripods. As long as the ladder is level, it will be structurally safe (verified by independent safety testing with all 3 legs at full extension, according EN131 testing at full leg extension). However, we don’t recommend this as it becomes unsafe climbing on and off the ladder as the first rung will be elevated to 65-80cm (>2ft) from the ground, which is around mid thigh.

As a BSI EN131 Kitemark safety accredited product, we recommend adhering to the maximum distance between the ground and the first rung, which is 30cm (approx. 1ft).

What’s the difference between the Henchman Fully Adjustable and the Henchman PRO Tripod?

The Fully Adjustable Tripod Ladder and the PRO Tripod Ladder share the same shape and footprint, both are equally stable, and both function the same – with 3 independently adjustable legs designed to level on uneven ground.

1. Aluminium thickness – The PRO is designed to withstand heavier wear and tear from daily use and transportation. It’s made using a harder grade of aluminium, and its rungs and stiles are made with thicker aluminium for added dent resistance. Refer to images under point 3 below.

2. Upgraded platform – The PRO Tripod Ladder has an upgraded platform, designed for increased grip and comfort during longer duration use. Refer to images under point 3 below.

3. Secondary platform – The PRO has a secondary platform below the main platform for added comfort when standing at a lower height. Refer to images below.

4. Extra adjustability – Each leg is adjustable by an additional 15cm to allow for safe working on steeper slopes or steps.

5. Rear leg clip – The PRO comes with a rear leg clip to hold the leg closed when carrying and transporting the ladder.

What is the BS EN131 Kitemark?

Our new tripod range is certified to EN131 - the only tripods on the market in the UK and EU. This means that Henchman ladders go through rigorous testing to meet the standards of The British Standards Institution (BSI). Our ladders are tested by an independent third party, checking their stability, grip, dimensions, labelling and their 150kg working load.

When it comes to EN131 standards, you may see phrases like ‘conforms’, ‘tested’ or ‘built to’ EN131. However, these terms can suggest that the ladder is not fully tested - it could have the right dimensions but the working load may not have been safety tested, for example.

Our Fully Adjustable Tripod Ladder meets the full specification, meaning you can be confident that your Henchman will keep you safe.

If unsure about the quality of a ladder, the EN131 certificate should be available to the public and can be shown to you when asked. Find out more about EN131 ladder standards.

How do I store a tripod ladder?

Our ladders are made from a single piece fully welded frame, so they do not telescope down. The storage length is the full height of the ladder, i.e. a 3.0m ladder has a 3.0m storage length.

Model Material Height Weight Standing platform depth Storage depth
1.5m / 5ft Aluminium 1.5m / 5ft 7KG 25cm / 9.8 inches 0.2m / 10 inches
1.8m / 6ft Aluminium 1.8m / 6ft 8KG 25cm / 9.8 inches 0.2m / 10 inches
2.4m / 8ft Aluminium 2.4m / 8ft 10KG 25cm / 9.8 inches 0.2m / 10 inches
3.0m / 10ft Aluminium 3.0m / 10ft 12KG 25cm / 9.8 inches 0.2m / 10 inches
3.6m / 12ft Aluminium 3.6m / 12ft 14KG 25cm / 9.8 inches 0.2m / 10 inches

How much does the Fully Adjustable Tripod Ladder weigh?

Refer to the chart under How do I store a tripod ladder?

How close can I get to the wall?

When working against a wall, we recommend placing the ladder sideways against the wall, with the rear leg and one of the front legs touching the base of the wall. In this position, the top of the ladder will never be more than 20cm away from the wall you are working against.

Alternatively, if you’re trimming a hedge that you want to face directly towards, you can push the individual rear leg into the base of the hedge to bring the top of the ladder within easy arm’s reach.

We have chosen to Kitemark our ladders, as Kitemark certification goes above and beyond just product testing. It looks at all aspects of the supply chain too, so you can rest assured that the ladders you receive are designed for the job your performing, safety tested to the highest standards, being produced by approved and audited manufacturers, and treated with through quality control measures through the whole of the supply chain.

If unsure about the quality of a ladder, the EN131 certificate should be available to the public and can be shown to you when asked. Find out more about EN131 ladder standards.

Are rubber feet included?

Yes, rubber feet are included free of charge with all Henchman tripod ladders. Their intended use is for adding grip when working on hard surfaces, as well as protecting the surface from scratching.

Do you ship to Northern Ireland?

We work with a stockist in Northern Ireland, Booths Lawnmower Services. We don’t ship to Northern Ireland directly. Due to the shape and length of our ladders, we do not currently have a suitable courier solution that can reliably deliver individual orders.

For more information or to make an enquiry, please see our dedicated Northern Ireland page.

Do you offer any discounts?

No, we don’t offer any discounts. We believe in treating all of our customers fairly, therefore we operate a fair pricing policy. You can rest assured that if you buy a ladder today, it won’t be on sale tomorrow.

As part of our policy we don’t:

  • Artificially inflate RRP’s or selling prices so we can offer a heavy “discount” or “sale”
  • Run any sales or discount our ladder prices at any point in the year. The price you see is the price that everyone pays.

The only exception is for wholesale or bulk purchases, which are considered on a case-by-case basis.
