Henchman supports Haddon Lake House project

Article date: 28 September 2006

Henchman, the safe hedge cutting platforms to barrow trailers and composters brand, has lent its support to a new build project on the Isle of Wight - Haddon Lake House – by donating product to help maintain the two acre garden.

“Henchman is one of our key sponsors of this eco-friendly self build project. The company’s generosity has meant that we have been able to restore part of the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) on the Island to its former glory,” said Phillippa Lambert from Lake House Design.

The site is the two-acre lake and walled garden complex of ‘Old Park’, part of the original pleasure grounds of a significant Victorian marine residence dating from 1832. Early last century this important designed landscape was split from its mansion house and since became disused.

Planning permission was given in 2002 for a new build private house at Old Park as part of a package to allow the restoration of the landscape to take place. Restoration has included the dredging of the lake, clearance of woodland scrub and reinstatement of the gravelled woodland walks. Now complete, the site is open on demand and without charge to schools, special needs groups and for charity fund raising.

For the maintenance of the garden, Henchman provided a 310 Barrow Trailer, ComposTumbler and Major Shredder Chipper. “All three bits of kit working together are the magic solution for the whole clearing and composting cycle in the Haddon Lake House garden. The Henchman products have transformed my ability to undertake these tasks efficiently and above all, quickly. They are well designed, robust and a pleasure to use,” added Phillippa.

Well suited to high volumes of shredding in large gardens or estates, Henchman’s Major Shredder Chipper uses a unique patented chopping system that exploits the natural weakness of the wood, by cutting along the grain and charges through 55mm thick trunks with leafy branches still attached.

“The Henchman Shredder Chipper takes all the routine prunings from the garden, plus waste from the kitchen and converts it easily into neat shreddings that can be loaded straight into the Henchman ComposTumbler.

“We have also had great success with the ComposTumbler. Even in cooler weather conditions, it completes a composting cycle in about 10 days, with sufficient heat produced to kill weeds and any undesirable pathogens.

“The Henchman Barrow Trailer is a robust easy-to-wheel design that has a very well balanced tipping action. It takes about three times the volume of a standard wheelbarrow, and allows bulk moving of, not only composting material, but any heavy items that need moving around the garden,” said Phillippa.

Henchman’s Tom Kitching stated, “We are delighted to support this fantastic initiative and help make the dream of a green build combined with landscape restoration a reality at Haddon Lake House.”
