Since April 1997, Bournemouth Council has been responsible for providing all local government services for this popular seaside resort that boasts award-winning beaches, a host of exquisite parks and gardens, and a vast range of shops, entertainment and amusements available for all ages and tastes.
The council is responsible for a range of services including; Education, Social Services, Trading Standards, Libraries, Planning, Economic Development, Highways, Environmental Health, Tourism, Benefits, Leisure Services and Housing.
Bournemouth Borough Council has purchased several products from Henchman for use in the town's large, 20-acre cemetery. A Hi-Step Senior with Extender were chosen to tackle the problem of pruning high holly trees and hedges since, like all employers, Bournemouth Borough Council has to adhere to the Working at Height Regulations which impose mandatory for the avoidance, elimination and minimisation of risks associated with falls when working at height. Stepladders were not safe to use for the maintenance of these trees and hedges and there was no other means of accessing the highest hedges in a safe manner. The Hi-Step has enabled council staff to cut hedges and trees safely, and to reach areas that could not be accessed before.
According to Julie Dunk, Bereavement Services Manager, 'Safety was the main factor when choosing the Hi-Step. My Cemeteries Officer had seen one demonstrated at IOG Saltex and we got the literature to show our grounds staff. All agreed that it seemed like a good solution to our problems.'
Julie Dunk went on to say, 'We were very happy with the service Henchman provided, which lead us to have no qualms about ordering the Henchman Barrow Trailer when we received the product information. My Grounds staff required a means of transporting tools and equipment round the cemetery without damaging the grassed areas and we chose the Henchman Barrow Trailer for its innovative design as both a trailer and a wheel barrow, and for its robustness and ease of use.' Staff use the barrow trailer for a multitude of tasks including removal of grass cuttings, moving tools and equipment, rubbish clearance and transporting bedding plants around the cemetery. Julie Dunk continued, 'The Henchman Barrow Trailer has enabled equipment and materials to be moved round the cemetery more quickly, and the fact that it can be towed behind a ride-on mower means we can make full use of all our plant.'
