The Eden Project
The Eden Project is one of the UK's top Landmark Millennium projects created to tell the fascinating story of man's relationship with plants. It is a non-profit making charitable scientific organisation for the 21st century with a commitment to communicate with the public through entertainment, education and involvement.
The Eden Project communicates its story in a Living Theatre of Plants and People based in a large crater, near St Austell in Cornwall, in which nestle two vast greenhouses (Biomes). In this series of huge geodesic domes there are thousands of plants and crops, some relatively common and some on the brink of extinction from the humid tropics and warm temperate regions which act as a backdrop to the temperate 34 acre landscape, known as Outdoor Biome.
The Hi-Step Senior was selected by the team at the Eden project to meet their requirements in the Outdoor Biome. They needed to be able to safely work at relatively low heights using equipment that was compliant with Health & Safety regulations and yet was easy to move around and flexible.
Adrian Lovatt, Assistant Temperate Curator commented, The Hi-Step is a lot safer than a conventional step ladder yet is easier to move around than a scaffold tower.
The Hi-Step is specifically used in the 34 acre Outdoor Biome for pruning topiary, pruning hops on 11 foot poles and high wires and pruning pleached Plane Trees.
Adrian went on to say, Having purchased and used Henchman products in previous jobs at Godinton Park and Gresgarth Hall, I had no hesitation whatsoever in choosing them again for the Eden Project. | ![]() |
